Today, Wednesday, March 18th, The U.S. Senate passed H.R. 6201 “Families First Coronavirus Response Act”. The legislation was previously passed by the House and has now been sent to President Trump who has indicated he will sign it. The legislation includes expansion of the Family and Medical Leave Act to provide up to 12 weeks paid leave for those caring for a child whose school or day care has been closed. In addition, the bill provides up to two weeks of emergency paid sick leave for those sick or in quarantine due to the Coronavirus. The legislation also includes refundable tax credits equal to 100% of a qualified family leave or qualified sick leave equivalent for self-employed individuals.
