A recent survey of homeowners and aspiring home owners showed that homeownership is a vital part of their American Dream. 92 percent of homeowners and 80 percent of non-owners say that homeownership is a vital part of their American Dream. Finances and affordability are the biggest obstacles to homeownership according to the non-owners surveyed, with 55 percent citing affordability as their reason for not owning a home. 87 percent of non-owners say that that they want to be homeowners in the future.
